The GOOD Party has called for the release of findings by the Council for the Built Environment (CBE) into the deadly George building collapse.

The report was commissioned by the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure to probe the circumstances of the 2024 tragedy.

Thirty-four construction workers lost their lives when a partially built five-storey building collapsed, burying them under 6,000 tonnes of rubble.

The CBE report is among a few others commissioned by various organizations.

While Public Works Minister Dean Macpherson confirmed receipt of the final report during a memorial on the one-year anniversary of the incident, GOOD Party George councillor, Chantelle Kyd, said he was yet to go public with the findings.

Weeks have passed, there has been no sign of the minister, and the families are no closer to the truth. The minister owes the public and the families an explanation for the delay.”

Findings of the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) completed in February, revealed damning failures by the construction company and led to the suspension of five NHBRC officials.

Every investigation, every report should bring closure, but instead it is adding to the same pile of unanswered questions, none of which bring justice any closer for the victims and survivors. The families should not have to beg for transparency, especially from a Minister who admitted this tragedy was ‘entirely preventable’.”
