He later started his own organisation, the Mayibuye Consultation Process, saying he no longer believed in the MK Party as a vehicle for black people’s liberation.
Shivambu also called the MK Party a family affair and accused its leader, Jacob Zuma, of being senile.

At a media briefing on Friday, the MK Party’s national chairperson, Nathi Nhleko, said Shivambu is no longer aligned with the ideas of the party.
“But also seriously violated the trust placed on him as a member of the party. In this regard, a decision has been taken to summarily terminate the membership of the former SG [Secretary General), and a formal letter of expulsion was transmitted to him on 15 July 2025, the MK Party will not entertain any further exchanges on this matter.”
