Uncedo Taxi Association president Fuzile Mtshengele has vowed to meet with the feuding leadership of the Border Alliance Taxi Association to find a solution to the recent taxi violence that paralysed Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday.

It is alleged the two taxi associations engaged in a shootout at a Port St Johns taxi rank. Three Uncedo Taxi Association security guards were killed while five others sustained gunshot wounds.

The R61 road between Port St Johns and Lusikisiki has been closed by the Uncedo Taxi Association for the whole day. Mtshengele says they want an amicable solution.

“For three years the killings stopped because of the discussions between the two taxi associations. What happened was a surprise. The reason we are here is because we want another three years or more without anyone getting injured. Tomorrow we will try and meet with the leadership of the Border Alliance to try and resolve the matter.
