The attempted murder case against alleged crime boss Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala has been postponed to next week.

Matlala will spend another week behind bars after his bail bid was pushed back in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning.

The businessman is accused of orchestrating a 2023 hit on his ex-girlfriend, socialite Tebogo Thobejane, and faces charges including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and money laundering.

Tuesday’s sitting was brief, with the court postponing Matlala’s formal bail application to next week Tuesday.

The four other accused, including Matlala’s wife, will return on 7 October, when two related cases are expected to be centralised.

Of the group, only his wife and the daughter of another accused are out on bail — the rest remain in custody.

Magistrate Syta Prinsloo: “The matter has been postponed until the 2nd of September back to this court for a formal bail application. He will then remain in custody. No bail.”

The court said that the postponements would give time for evidence disclosure and for multiple cases to be streamlined into one.
