Schools damaged by storms

Schools damaged by storms, inadequate textbooks and pupils still not placed are among the challenges making it difficult for some Eastern Cape schools to open on Wednesday.

But at its state of readiness briefing, the education department said it’s all systems go. There are still 831 pupils who need to be placed.

96 schools have been damaged and with schools set to reopen on Wednesday, the education department says it’s working around the clock to get infrastructure fixed.

Meanwhile, the Gift of the Givers is extending a helping hand in the form of uniforms and building supplies for those affected by the floods.
