Former Midvaal mayor Bongani Baloyi, says the constitution is an instrument of change but the process must be led by politicians.

He says politicians like Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu are using ideological arguments to detract from their own inaction. Sisulu has controversially criticised the constitution and judiciary.

“I think the constitution is an instrument for change, the question is about those who are leading the process, should be the instrument of change,” he said.

“It is a very good conversation to have but it is a conversation where you are having it with somebody who is now positioning themselves as an outsider who is looking in, who has not done anything for these amount of years, and now we must have an intellectual debate.

Baloyi joined ActionSA on Monday. He left the Democratic Alliance in December 2021.
