Eskom says planned maintenance is continuing as part of efforts to keep the lights on during the winter peak demand.

The power utility has assured that its systems are stable, despite implementing and later suspending stage two load shedding last week.

Spokesperson Daphne Mokwena said additional units would return from long-term repairs to increase capacity during the colder months.

“Reliance on diesel usage is expected to decline as maintenance activities wind down and additional units return from long-term repairs, increasing available generation capacity,” said Mokwena.

She added that the utility plans to announce its winter outlook next week.

Electricity Minister

“While load shedding remains suspended and electricity demand continues to rise, Eskom urges the public to help prevent transformer overloads and related equipment faluires which can result in explosions and prolonged outages. This can be achived by avoiding illegal connections, purchasing electricity only from eskom acredited vendors,” said Mokwena.
