Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy A27 5G, the latest addition to its popular Galaxy A series, bringing a larger display, improved performance and a wider range of artificial intelligence (AI) features to the mid-range smartphone market.
The new device builds on the success of the Galaxy A26 5G with several hardware and software upgrades aimed at improving the everyday smartphone experience while keeping the handset at an affordable price point.
Bigger, Smoother Display
The Galaxy A27 5G features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, offering smoother scrolling, gaming and video playback than standard 60Hz screens.
Samsung has also redesigned the front of the device with an Infinity-O display, replacing the older notch with a small punch-hole camera. Combined with slimmer bezels, the design provides users with more screen space for watching videos, browsing social media and multitasking.
At just 7.8mm thick, the smartphone maintains a slim profile that is designed to be comfortable for everyday use.
Improved Performance
Powering the Galaxy A27 5G is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor, which promises faster app performance, smoother multitasking and improved graphics compared with its predecessor.
The chipset is paired with faster memory and improved power efficiency, helping the device deliver better battery performance while handling demanding tasks such as mobile gaming, video streaming and productivity apps.
Samsung has also upgraded the front-facing camera to a 12MP sensor, which is designed to capture brighter, more detailed selfies with improved colour accuracy across different lighting conditions.
AI Takes Centre Stage
Artificial intelligence continues to play a larger role in Samsung’s smartphone strategy, and the Galaxy A27 5G introduces several AI-powered tools designed to simplify everyday tasks.
Among the headline features is Circle to Search with Google, allowing users to search for multiple objects within a single image. Whether identifying clothing, accessories or other products, the feature makes visual searches faster and more convenient. Users can also explore virtual outfit suggestions directly from search results.
Samsung has also enhanced its Object Eraser feature, enabling users to remove unwanted people or objects from photos with more natural-looking edits.
The built-in Voice Recorder app has gained live transcription and translation capabilities, allowing recorded conversations and meetings to be transcribed while simultaneously being translated into 22 supported languages.
The Galaxy A27 5G also supports multiple AI assistants, including Google Gemini, Perplexity and Samsung’s own Bixby, giving users more flexibility when completing everyday tasks through voice commands and conversational interactions.
Long-Term Software Support
Samsung continues to strengthen its software support policy for mid-range devices.
The Galaxy A27 5G will receive up to six generations of Android operating system and One UI upgrades, along with six years of security updates. This extended support helps users keep their devices secure and up to date for longer, reducing the need for frequent upgrades.
The smartphone also includes Samsung Knox security and Knox Vault, which use hardware-based protection to help safeguard sensitive personal information, passwords and financial data.
Pricing and Availability
The Galaxy A27 5G is available in South Africa from Samsung stores, participating mobile network operators and selected retailers from 1 July, with online sales through Samsung beginning on 10 July.
The smartphone comes in Black and Light Green and carries a recommended retail price of R6,999.
Customers also have the option of purchasing Samsung Care+, the company’s device protection plan, which provides cover for accidental damage and other eligible repairs.
The Galaxy A27 5G joins Samsung’s expanding portfolio of affordable 5G smartphones, reflecting the company’s continued focus on bringing premium features such as AI-powered tools, high-refresh-rate displays and long-term software support to more accessible price segments.
