Popular Lekompo musician Shebeshxt, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, appeared once again before the Polokwane Regional Court on Friday as his legal troubles deepened following the addition of 11 new charges by the State.

The 31-year-old artist is now facing a total of 20 charges connected to a string of serious allegations, including attempted murder, assault, possession of an unlicensed firearm, malicious damage to property, and other related offences. The expanding charge sheet has significantly increased the complexity of the case, placing additional pressure on both the prosecution and defence teams as preparations continue ahead of trial proceedings.
During the hearing, Chauke’s attorney, Michael Khumalo, raised concerns about delays in obtaining the official case docket, arguing that the defence required the documents urgently in order to properly prepare for the growing number of charges.
Khumalo told the court that the defence had initially requested access to the docket while the matter was still being handled at district court level. According to him, the seriousness of the allegations and the volume of evidence expected in the case made early preparation essential.

The defence maintained that without access to the docket, it remained difficult to fully assess the State’s case, consult witnesses, and formulate an appropriate legal strategy. However, Khumalo said they accepted assurances from prosecutors that the documents would be made available by next week.
The State requested a postponement to allow the defence sufficient time to study the contents of the docket once received. Prosecutors also informed the court that another State advocate could potentially take over the matter during the next appearance because of scheduling and workload commitments within the prosecution team.
As the case continues to attract widespread public attention, Khumalo further revealed that the defence intends bringing in an additional advocate to strengthen Chauke’s legal team. The move is believed to be aimed at handling the increasingly complex nature of the proceedings and preparing for possible future applications and trial arguments.

The musician remains in custody after his recent bail application was denied by the court. His legal representatives confirmed that they are preparing to appeal the ruling, arguing that Chauke should be granted bail while awaiting further court proceedings.
Health concerns involving the artist were also brought before the court. The defence requested that Chauke receive medical attention while in detention, with concerns reportedly raised about his condition while in custody.
The court heard that Chauke would temporarily remain at the Polokwane police station to allow easier access to medical treatment before any possible transfer to a correctional facility.
The case has drawn major public interest due to Shebeshxt’s popularity within the Lekompo music scene and his strong social media following. Known for his energetic performances and controversial public image, the musician has frequently made headlines both for his music career and personal controversies.

Supporters gathered outside court during previous appearances, with some calling for his release while others expressed concern over the seriousness of the allegations against him. The ongoing legal battle is expected to continue attracting attention as more details emerge in court.
The matter was postponed to May 28 for further proceedings.
